Held in Covenant:
Physician-Led Brit Milah & Brit Bat

Physician-led Brit Milah and Brit Bat ceremonies for families across the DMV, blending medical expertise with Reform Jewish ritual.

Creating a calm, thoughtful experience that honors your family's values while safeguarding your baby's well-being.

Doctor, Mohelet, Mother

I am Rebecca Garbose, MD, a board-certified OB-GYN and Reform Jewish mohelet. I work with families across the DMV to offer Brit Milah and Brit Bat ceremonies that honor Jewish tradition with compassion, intention, and care.

As a physician and a parent, I understand how sacred and vulnerable the early days of welcoming a child can be. My role is to create a calm, respectful experience for your family — I am here to honor your values, welcome your questions, and safeguard your baby's well-being.

As an OB-GYN, my medical training allows me to bring experience, safety, and a steady, unhurried presence to each newborn circumcision. As a mohelet, I approach each ceremony with humility and care, recognizing that every family — and every ceremony — is unique.

My practice is grounded in Reform Jewish values and is warmly inclusive of interfaith families, LGBTQ+ families, and families exploring how Jewish tradition fits into their lives. Whether you are deeply rooted in ritual, rediscovering your connection to Jewish tradition, or newly exploring your faith, you are welcome here.

Above all, I believe this experience should feel held — medically, emotionally, and spiritually. It is an honor to walk with you and your family as you welcome your children into the covenant of the Jewish people.

What to Expect

I offer two distinct ceremonies, each honoring your child's place within the Jewish people. Select below to learn what each entails.

Brit Milah is the Jewish covenant of circumcision, performed on the eighth day of a baby boy's life. As a board-certified OB-GYN, I bring both medical precision and ritual care to this sacred ceremony.

01
Initial Consultation

We connect before the ceremony to discuss your family's traditions, answer all medical and ritual questions, and walk through what to expect on the day.

02
The Ceremony

The brit is conducted with full religious ritual. As a physician, I ensure the circumcision is swift, precise, and as comfortable as possible for your baby boy.

03
Aftercare & Follow-Up

You will receive complete aftercare instructions, and I am available for follow-up questions — giving you peace of mind as your son heals.

Brit Bat is a joyful naming and welcoming ceremony for baby girls — a purely spiritual celebration with no medical component. It is a beautiful way to welcome your daughter into the covenant of the Jewish people.

01
Planning Together

We connect in advance to shape a ceremony that reflects your family's values, traditions, and the meaning you wish to bring to this day.

02
The Ceremony

A warm, spiritually meaningful celebration welcoming your daughter into the Jewish community — through blessings, readings, and the giving of her Hebrew name.

03
A Lasting Memory

I work with you to create a ceremony your family will carry with them — a true simcha that honors your daughter's arrival and her place in the covenant.
